WHAT SHE WORE

The ever adorable Kaylah was sporting a Yeah Vintage top in her outfit post today!  This top was my little thank-you to her for hosting a giveaway for Yeah Vintage back in March on her blog, The Dainty Squid.

MAMA VISIT

My mama's coming to visit today!  Just a quick overnight trip.  It's her first time to see the farm and I'm super excited to show her around.  It's a magical place, ya know.

This is my mom circa mid-late 70's.  That's totally her El Camino in the background.  And her miniature poodle, Pepper.

INSTAGRAM WEEKDAY WRAP-UP

1.  It's springtime, y'all!  Go outside and play!  

2.  Gonzo and I went to the dog park.  He cried the entire time (due to excitement).  

3.  I got a pretty succulent for my desk.  Thanks mom!

5.  Finally got around to making some business cards for Yeah Vintage.

SCREEN PRINTED BUSINESS CARDS

I finally got around to making some business cards for Yeah Vintage.  I love the way screen printed business cards look and feel.  This was my first go at a front & back print on something this small.  I have an extremely minimal screen printing setup, so this was a bit of a challenge for me.  

I used a typewriter font for the contact info on the back of the cards and used my own handwritten "Yeah!" for the design on the front.

I wanted to make something that people could potentially put on their desk, hang on their fridge, etc. that was more like a tiny poster print instead of a business card.

I'm pretty happy with how they came out.  They all look a little different, which I love.  I want to make the pinstripes thinner for my next batch.

Now I just need some more business!  Spread the word, friends!  Also, if you snail mail me...I will snail mail you back.

INSTAGRAM WEEKDAY WRAP-UP

I hope everyone had a wonderful week!  Here are some highlights from mine through the eyes of Instagram.

I received a surprise hair product package from my sister (technically my brother's girlfriend...but a sister nonetheless) and I made way too many to-do lists.  Rat poison, check!  No trespassing sings, to be completed...

Gonzo got a new summer hairdo.  It makes him prance and he's a completely different color under all that wiry gray hair!

Don't ya hate it when this happens to wine corks?  We have a ton of leftover wine from our wedding and every single cork does this.  Buzzkill.

I hit the vintage fabric motherload at a local thrift store and started making little credit card wallets.  They will be available for purchase at Yeah Vintage soon!  Also, I miss my blond hair.

Gonzo met a new rat friend, who happens to have a living mouse friend who attempted to nest in our bathroom.  With my toilet paper.  Totes rude.

Heading to the DFW mid-cities this weekend for some twin sister hangsies.  Have an amazing weekend!

YEAH VINTAGE SNEAK PEEK

I wanted to share a (very) little sneak peek of my soon-to-be-launched website!

I still have quite a bit of work to do before I officially open shop, but I'm so excited and wanted to share!  Can't wait for the grand opening!

END YEARS RESOLUTIONS

I am the queen of unfinished projects.  I get a little too excited about starting new ones and neglect to finish everything else that's pending.  I do this with books as well.  I'm currently reading 4 different books but cannot remember the last time I finished one.  I am ashamed.

I took a knitting class about two years ago and my only fished project was the entry level one that everyone must do...a dish rag.  Who uses knit dish rags?  Anyway, I started a scarf and it has been sitting in a box with various sewing supplies for the last two year.  I happened upon it whilst cleaning out our storage unit this weekend.  So sad...

I started this needle point a handful of weeks ago as part of a Christmas gift.  It's so close to being finished, yet I can't seem to get motivated to actually finish it.  Le sigh...

I typically do not make new years resolutions, but thought I'd go ahead and do one for 2011 since it's almost over.  These two bad boys are going to be finished and gifted by the years end.  I have a ways to go on the scarf...

DIY FRAMED VINTAGE MAPS TUTORIAL

SUPPLIES NEEDED : 

1.  THRIFTED FRAMES : I purchased these for $0.10 each at our local Goodwill.
2.  MOD PODGE : About $6 - $8.  A crafters must.  I'm a fan of the matte finish.
3.  SPRAY PAINT : This is to paint your frames and is optional if you dig the color of your thrifted frames.
4.  PAINT BRUSH : You totally have one somewhere in your house.
5.  VINTAGE MAP : Purchased for $1 at an antique shop.  Look for ones that are torn, they are always cheaper.

PAINT YOUR FRAMES : 

1.  Remove the glass and clean your frames with a damp rag.  You want to make sure the frame is free from dust so the paint adheres well.

2.  Spray-paint both sides of your frame with the color of your choice.

PREP YOUR MAPS AND MOD PODGE :

3.  While your frames are drying you can start cutting out your maps.  Lay your frame-glass on your map and trace around the edges.

4.  Cut out your map pieces and set them aside.

PAINT YOUR MAPS :   

5.  I wanted each of my map cutouts to look a little different, so I mixed in a drop of food coloring with my Mod Podge.

6.  Use your paintbrush and Mod Podge each of your map pieces to each of your glass pieces.  A thin layer will do.  Be sure to clean each of your glass pieces before Mod Podging!

 

FRAME YOUR MAPS : 

7.  Once your maps are dry you can frame and hang!

ROCK ME MAMA

There's a killer antique shop super close to our house called Wagon Wheel Antique Mall.  It's been over a year since my last visit and I'm not entirely sure why I waited so long.  They have some top-notch goodies and the prices aren't outrageous.  Lots of antique pictures, vintage toys and tons of vinyl under $5.  I added Talking Heads "More Songs About Buildings and Food" to my collection.

Pee Wee Herman pervin' on Cherry Street.  My mom actually grew up on Cherry Street.  I imagine that's what she and her siblings looked like back then.  

They have so many cookie jars.  They are all equally creepy and amazing.

I immediately regretted not buying these posters.  I had the biggest crush on Doogie Howser and Officer Tom Hanson as a kid.  Oh, NPH and Johnny Depp...never ending swoons.

Remember my shameful vinyl crates from a few days ago?  I randomly found this amazing vintage toy box that fits my collection perfectly.  I am in love.

CROP MASTER

I have been editing photos for the website for what feels like months.  I have an extremely modest photo studio setup which leads to me investing most of my time to trimming, cropping and color correcting.

Taking photos of clothing has been far more exhausting than I originally thought.  Turns out it's fairly difficult to make colors on clothing look accurate in photos.  I seriously loathed anything with primary colors.  I would want the color green to look green.  But green would decide that it would rather look like teal, or mint, or hunter.  Photoshop can only do so much without distorting every other color in the image.  I tore my hair out for weeks trying to get an accurate lighting setup and finally invested in a cheap light kit on Amazon.  It has completely restored my sanity.  Primary colors and I are back in love again (I know you were really worried about it). 

Prepare yourself for some horn tootin'...  My Photoshop pen tool skills are getting pretty darn close to perfect.  The pen tool will forever eat the magic wand tool for breakfast.  Here are some before and afters of photos that I have finished recently.  All of these beauties (along with plenty of others) will be available on the Yeah Vintage website soon!
