FARM FRESH

Our good friend, Justin, has been living in Europe for the past two years and just arrived in Texas for a short visit.  His family recently moved from the suburbs of Dallas/Ft Worth to an amazing farm in a nearby town.  His wonderful mother sent him with a dozen farm fresh eggs for us.

I do believe these are some of the best eggs I have ever consumed.  I really hope we can have chickens someday.  But for now...a veggie garden will suffice.

GARDEN BABIES

Our garden is barely a month old and we already have our first edible babies!

We had this little yellow squash last night for dinner and it was amazing.  I've never been a huge squash fan, but it was darn good!

Our cucumber is a little guy.  I was afraid that I plucked it too soon, but it is delicious and the seeds are the perfect size!  I hope all the cucumbers end up this small.  It's the perfect amount for two people.

I am over-the-moon excited about having my own garden and can't wait to have a wide selection of fresh veggies daily.

I've been investing much more time and energy into researching where our food is coming from and how it was grown/raised/manufactured.  I have been more and more grossed out with processed foods and the lack of information included on labels.  Having our own garden is a small step to ensure we're consuming fresh yummies and I hope everyone starts (or continues to grow) their own garden.

DERBY DE MAYO

One of the websites I work for (Roller Girl Skates) hosted the first annual Derby de Mayo party at our newly redesigned shop last Saturday.  I've been working from home since last summer and I only get to see my coworkers about once every couple of months, so Joey and I drove into town for the festivities.  The party was rad.  There were derby scrimmages, free booze, free food, giveaways, live music, it was awesome.

Business has been crazy (online and at the shop) so they knocked out a wall to make room for more of our derby goodies.

These socks are the jam!  They're made by a company called Sock it to Me and they are my fav.

Our wheel room is my happy place.  So many pretty colors.

I know you've been searching for some hardcore booty shorts...

The scrimmages were in the parking lot and some of the falls were pretty brutal.  Skin does not slide very well on asphalt.

Here are a handful of my coworkers.  I miss their little faces.

Clockwise from top left : Leslie (aka Weapon X), Kellye (aka WreckLiz n Dangerous), Luther (the boss man), Veronica, Jenny, and Kyle.

Mosey on over to Roller Girl Skates if you're in the market for derby gear, and stop by our shop in Lewisville, TX if you're in the area.  Tell 'em Kendall sent ya'!

RECORD STORE DAY

I hope everyone visited their favorite record store on Saturday for Record Store Day!  Good Records (Dallas, TX) was having an all-day shin dig with tunes, booze, art, vintage clothing, and miscellaneous fun times.

Good Records is definitely one of my all time favorite record stores.  Their vinyl collection makes me wish I had more money.

I also received my first (mild) sunburn of the summer.  If you know me at all, then you know how much I avoid the sun sans sunscreen.  Poor planning on my part.  Gotta keep that skin protected, y'all!

There were two mobile vintage setups in attendance.  Sugar Derby - a re-purposed vintage camper...

(Love the astroturf)

...and The Vintage Mobile - a re-purposed school bus.  Love, love, love wooden hangers.

It is definitely refreshing to see so many people supporting local businesses, and to see local businesses genuinely caring about their community.

Listen to Lola and shop local whenever possible.  It makes the gods happy.
