THE BACK POCKETS

Our pals, The Back Pockets, are currently on tour (along with our new pals Lily and The Tigers) and stopped by the farm on a night off.  They're a jumbo band from Atlanta, GA and they're some of the greatest people you will ever meet.

They converted this city bus into the most excellent touring vehicle.  They built bunk beds that will sleep 7, the entire thing is painted inside and out, and it says "Unicorns Unite" on the back.  It's pretty magical.

I have mad respect for touring ladies (especially ones that drive giant buses).  These gals are total pros and are great performers.  Plus, they can make Gonzo smile in pictures.  This is very rare.

They were only in town for the night, but we snapped a few family photos before they had to leave.

He has shorts on.  I promise...

Do yourself a flavor and check out some of their tunes, or better yet, go see them while they're on tour!

And do yourself and even BIGGER flavor...and watch this little video they just made.  It's mesmerizing.

You can see more of their touring shenanigans here.

I MADE THAT

I started hand-dying and screen printing each of my bands t-shirts back in 2007.  I always tried to keep one of each print for keepsake purposes.  I rarely wear t-shirts, so they've been sitting in a dresser since the day each one was made.

When we moved last fall, I couldn't bear to throw them out, but I didn't want them rotting away in a storage space either.  Luckily, Joey's grandma (Nonnie) is a master quilter and was super excited when I asked if she'd help me make a t-shirt quilt.

Quilts are intimidating.  They are so meticulous and time consuming.  I loathe sewing patterns and have yet to use one for any of my projects, but Nonnie assured me that I was in good hands.

Whilst cutting the squares, I was overwhelmed with nostalgia.  Each of these shirts brings back so many memories.

This was the very first Mount Righteous t-shirt.  We took a group photo and I outlined it in Illustrator.  We sold them at our very first show ever.  Big ol' happy blob family.

Joey made the design for the "All Together Now" shirt.  It is still one of my favs.  Joey's brother, Andrew Hammond Kendall, made a poster that included the scantily-clad ladies on the right.  The poster also included scantily-clad gentlemen.  I can't remember why I only included the ladies on the shirt.

Joey designed these as well.  We printed tons of them in a bunch of different color combos.  It was our go-to design.  I love it.

Our cymbal player, Zicole, drew the instruments for the design on the left.  We sold this t-shirt when we did our big 4 month long tour in 2010.  We played shows is so many states across the country.  Definitely one of the best times in my life.  The design on the right was drawn by Joey.  We sold them while on his tour last fall through the west & midwest.  It's a good-ol-boy asking a sody-pop to marry him.

It's crazy to think how many strangers across the country have one of these shirts in their closets.  It's going to be a dang good quilt.

TOUR PHOTO DUMP

California made me lazy and a half...and the 5:00am work wake-up calls didn't make it any easier.  Anywhos...here's what I have to report...

Ladies...this is how you work a flattering angle.  Golf claps to myself.

Photo on the left...story of my life.  Photo on the right...story of my life.

Road dogs.  2005 Scion XB going strong.

Random cat wall collage at The Big House in Flagstaff, AZ.  I approve (obviously).

Grow up ladies of San Diego!  Learn to grammar check!

We stayed with our good pal Jace (and his awesome roommates) in Hollywood for about a week.  Just in case you can't tell from the carpet pictured below, their house is the bomb.  Giant house with confetti carpeted music room/guest house?  Yes please!

Sometimes I'm really good at dominoes...

Overhead view of Amoeba Music in Hwood.  Overwhelming.  And awesome.

Joey's/Joseph's fortune...truth.

My fortune...truth.

Home Room is a new DIY venue in Los Angeles and it rules.

They have some righteous zines.

Joey did an in-studio performance at KCSB 91.9 in Santa Barbara.

The DJ, Josh, is in a great band called Watercolor Paintings.  He knows EVERYONE that tours in the DYI scene.  Seriously.  Everyone.

The Trunk Space in Phoenix was showing a Mark Mothersbaugh rug installation.

The small ones were only $400.  Gimme that.

And we're back in TX!  High-fives to the USA for being an amazing place to drive through.  The last 2.5 weeks have been excellent.  It's bittersweet to be back but I'm definitely looking forward to sleeping in a bed.

COLORADO SPRINGS - TUCSON

The drive from Colorado Springs to Tucson was beautiful.  We ate way too many sunflower seeds, listened to the NPR Music app (I highly recommend you download this), and stopped a few times to take some family photos.

Too cool for school.

I didn't take any photos of the Tucson show at Scrappy's, but it was good times.  We weren't in town long but were still able to squeeze in some hang times with some of our Tucson buds.  The kids in Tucson are true blue.

We hit the road simi-early for Flagstaff.  The drive was absolutely gorgeous...and a little scary.  The hills are intense!  We just rolled over 133,000 miles in the Scion and were granny driving the entire way.  She's a good little car, but we have to treat her like a princess.

WICHITA - COLORADO SPRINGS

The show in Colorado Springs was at The Modbo (aka The Modern Bohemian).  The gallery was the perfect size and the owners were rad.

They had this incredible hand-stenciled concrete floor.  This is definitely happening if I ever have a dwelling with concrete floors again.

Constellation of Cars played and were excellent.  They both plan to move to Texas in the very near future.  The dude, Andy, is going to spend some time with family in Athens, TX which happens to be about 15 miles away from our middle-of-nowhere tree farm.  What are the odds?

I just now realized that my 7am - noon work-from-the-road schedule is centered around the central/standard time-zone.  Which means as we move west, my wake time gets earlier and earlier.  By the time we reach California, I will be up at 5am.  Oy vey.  Why I just now realized this, I will never know.

We stayed with our friends Kim and Trae in CoSprings and they have the most amazing little animals.  Two beagles (hiccup and pickles) and a kitty (harvey).  I decided to work from under the blankets that morning because it was so damn cold.  All of the animal snuggles made it much warmer though.

Cuteness overload.

I am in LOVE with their house.  The fireplace and brick walls make my heart melt.  Le sigh...

We had a day off and hung out with our good pal Jared and his girlfriend Mariah.  They just moved to Manitou Springs and it is the most lovely town ever.  They have a little house nestled in the side of a mountain.  It reminded me of the canyons in Los Angeles.  But colder...with less traffic...and no homeless people.

This is BatTat.  He has a very tiny meow.

We hiked up Red Mountain.  Photos cannot describe the view from up there.  I swear we could see all the way to Kansas.

Joey is really good at waiting until I'm ready to take a photo...

Such great friends.  Can't wait to come back when we have more time for hangsies.
